Why buy from The Talaria UK

A Talaria is a considered purchase, and the retailer you buy it from shapes the ownership experience as much as the bike itself. We are a UK specialist, not a general electric bike shop, and everything we do is built around these machines, from the first question to the parts you fit years later.

01

Specialists, not generalists

We sell Talaria electric bikes and the parts that keep them running, and that is the whole business. Ask which Sting suits a heavier rider on a private track, or whether an MX5 Pro is too much as a first electric dirt bike for adults, and you get an answer from someone who has set these bikes up and ridden them.

02

Pre delivery inspection

Every bike is unboxed, inspected, charged and checked before it goes out. Fasteners are torqued, the chain is tensioned, the brakes are tested, the display is set to mph, and the bike is powered up and test run. You receive a machine that is ready to ride, not a crate and a leaflet.

03

Genuine parts and upgrades

Our parts shelves hold the items owners actually need: OEM Sting batteries and chargers, replacement IPM and PMSM motors, displays, rims and wheel sets, Manitou Dorado forks, and controllers from KO Moto, Nucular and EBMX. Because we stock them, a repair or an upgrade is a stock check rather than a long wait.

04

Road legal done properly

Our L1e and L3e Sting models are homologated in their class, which is what allows them to be registered with the DVLA, and they arrive with mirrors, indicators, a brake light and a number plate holder already fitted. We explain which licence and training you need before you order, so there are no surprises later.

05

Aftercare that answers

Every bike we sell is covered by our UK warranty, full terms on the warranty page, and warranty work is handled by the same team that inspected the bike. If something needs looking at, you deal with us directly rather than an overseas seller, and you get a plain answer about what happens next.

06

Finance and clear delivery

Finance is available at checkout so the cost can be spread rather than paid in one go, with eligibility assessed by the finance provider when you apply. Delivery covers the UK mainland, with timescales confirmed at checkout, and we keep you informed from dispatch until the bike arrives.

Choosing between the Talaria Sting, XXX, Komodo and Dragon

Four families make up the current lineup, and the right one depends on your weight, your riding ground and how much bike you want to manage. The Sting is the reference point: a 19 inch wheeled electric dirt bike with a gearbox primary drive, a swappable 60V battery and, in MX5 Pro form, a 72V pack. Most riders coming from a Sur Ron or a petrol pit bike land here, because the Sting R MX4 balances 8000W of peak power against 66 kg of net weight.

The XXX and the X3 Concept are the compact route in. They share the Sting R motor design but use a belt primary drive, a built in 60V 40Ah battery and a lower seat height of around 805mm, which suits shorter riders and anyone who wants a lighter, quieter machine for tight woodland. The 2025 XXX Pro adds 160mm of rear travel through a new linkage, 19 and 17 inch off road wheels and a colour TFT display in the MX5 style.

The Komodo and the Dragon sit in a different weight class altogether. The Komodo runs a 97.2V 45Ah battery, 32 kW of peak power and 21 and 18 inch wheels on a 98 kg chassis, which places it against 350 to 450cc petrol enduro bikes. The Dragon gives up a little peak power, 28 kW, for a larger 5.2 kWh pack and the longest quoted range of anything we sell. Both are full size electric motorcycles rather than oversized e bikes.

A quick way to decide

If you are lighter or new to off road riding, the XXX or the Sting MX3 keeps the power manageable. If you want one bike for everything, the Sting R MX4 or the MX5 Pro is the answer. If you ride hard, jump and want petrol enduro pace, look at the Komodo or the Dragon. If you need to use public roads at any point, a road legal Sting is the only route, because the off road models are not homologated for UK roads.

How the range compares with Sur Ron, Stark Varg and petrol dirt bikes

Most UK buyers who write to us are cross shopping a Sting against a Sur Ron bike of some kind. The Light Bee is the original and still the reference point, the Sur Ron Ultra Bee sits above it as a heavier and faster machine, the Sur Ron Hyper Bee is the lighter option, and the LBX is the current evolution of the Light Bee frame. Many of the people who buy from us have owned Sur Rons already, so they know exactly what they are weighing up, and we stock crossover parts such as the EBMX 72V 42Ah battery for the SurRon LBX.

The engineering difference that matters most is the primary drive. A Sur Ron electric bike sends power through a toothed belt to a jackshaft before the chain takes over, which is light, cheap to service and soft at the throttle. The Sting uses a sealed gearbox running in oil instead, so there is no belt to tension and none to shed teeth in grit, and servicing becomes an oil change on a schedule. Neither choice is wrong. One is easier to fix at the side of a trail, the other asks less of you between rides.

Higher up, the Komodo and Dragon get measured against the Stark Varg, and that comparison only half works. Stark Future built the Varg as a full size competition motocross machine, with the battery case forming part of the chassis and a phone in an armoured mount doing the job of a dash. It is serious engineering aimed at gate drops. Our two big machines are built for trails, quarries and long enduro days, their packs lift out for indoor charging, and the Dragon is offered in a road legal L1e form, which no Varg is.

Against a petrol 125cc dirt bike

An electric motorcycle costs very little to run. Charging is pennies against a tank of fuel, and there is no oil filter, no air filter and no carburettor to clean. A petrol 125cc dirt bike will go further on a fast splash and go refill, and a 50cc dirt bike is cheaper to buy outright. What the electric side wins outright is noise. A quiet machine keeps a landowner happy, and that is often the difference between riding and not riding at all.

Electric moped UK law is simpler than it first looks. The rules sort powered two wheelers into L categories under Regulation 168/2013, and a bike is only road legal if it was homologated into one of them. The Sting L1e is a moped class vehicle: speed limited to 45 km/h, which is around 28 mph, with road legal lighting, mirrors, indicators, a brake light and a number plate holder fitted at the factory. It is the electric equivalent of a 50cc moped, and as an electric moped for adults who commute short distances it is the model to choose at 16.

The paperwork is the same for any electric motorcycle UK riders want to use on the public road. To ride the L1e version you need to be 16 or over, hold at least a provisional licence and complete Compulsory Basic Training, then register the bike, display a number plate, insure it and wear an approved helmet. Anyone who passed a car driving test before 1 February 2001 already holds moped entitlement and can ride an L1e without CBT; everyone else completes CBT first. The GOV.UK pages on riding a moped and on CBT set this out in full.

The Sting L3e is the 125 equivalent, a light motorcycle in the A1 class without the moped speed cap. Plenty of people search for a 125cc moped when what they really want is a 125 class machine, and this is the electric answer to that search. It carries the 60V 45Ah battery, road biased tyres and a 71 kg weight with the battery fitted. You need to be 17 or over and hold CBT with a provisional licence, riding on L plates, or a full A1, A2 or A licence. Registration, insurance and an MOT once the bike is old enough apply exactly as they would to a petrol 125.

What off road models can and cannot do

Off road models such as the Sting R MX4, MX5 Pro, XXX, Komodo and the off road Dragon are not homologated. They cannot be ridden on public roads, byways, bridleways, footpaths or pavements anywhere in the UK, whatever the speed setting. Private land with the landowner's permission, licensed MX tracks and club events are where they belong. We say this before every sale, and we never describe an off road bike as road legal.

Batteries, charging and real world range

Every current model uses lithium ion cells in the 21700 format, and the pack is the single biggest factor in how the bike feels. The Sting MX3 and the L1e carry a 60V 38.4Ah pack, the Sting R MX4 and the L3e move to 60V 45Ah with LG cells, and the MX5 Pro steps up to 72V 40Ah with Samsung 50S cells for 2880 Wh. Higher voltage means more power at the same current, which is why the MX5 Pro pulls so much harder at the top end.

Range figures on any spec sheet come from a steady speed test, so treat them as a ceiling rather than a promise. The factory quotes 120 km at 25 km/h for the Sting R MX4, 100 km at 25 km/h for the MX5 Pro and the XXX Pro, 115 km at 45 km/h for the Komodo and 150 km at 25 km/h for the Dragon. Hard off road riding with a heavier rider uses energy far faster, and the four levels of regenerative braking help claw some of it back on long descents.

Charging is straightforward with the supplied charger from a standard UK socket. The Sting R MX4 charges from empty in around 3 hours, the road legal Stings in about 3.5 hours, the XXX Pro and the Dragon in around 4 hours, and the Komodo in approximately 1.5 hours on its own charger. Sting batteries swap out in seconds, which is why many owners run a second pack. Our batteries and chargers category lists OEM and EBMX options, and the battery guide covers care and winter storage.

Parts, upgrades and controllers

These bikes are easy to live with partly because parts are plentiful and the platform is well understood. Our Talaria parts category carries genuine replacement items for the Sting: the OEM 60V battery pack, the OEM charger, the Sting R display, the complete OEM motor, and separate IPM and PMSM replacement motors for the MX4 and the MX3. Wheels and rims are covered too, from a 19 by 1.40 front rim and a 16 by 1.85 rear rim to KKE 21 and 18 inch wheel sets and 17 inch supermoto wheels.

Controllers are where most owners go looking for more. The KO Moto Rush controller is a factory spec upgrade aimed at riders who want a sharper Sting response, and the Nucular controller suits MX3 and MX4 owners who want deeper tuning. At the top sits the EBMX X9000 power kit, the VESC based controller we fit to our own MX5 Pro Competizione builds, rated at 22 kW continuous with a 40V to 100V input range, a 12V converter with four outputs and IP67 sealing.

Suspension and chassis upgrades matter as much as power. The Manitou Dorado Expert fork is the unit fitted to the Sting R MX4 Expert, and the Dorado Comp is the more accessible option; both are listed with fitment notes. Our Track N Go system swaps a Sting MX3 or MX4 from wheels to ski and track using the original rear suspension. Whatever you fit, remember that raising the power of an off road bike changes nothing about where it can be ridden, and controller changes on a road legal model can affect its homologation.

Why a UK Talaria specialist matters

The cheapest way to buy one of these bikes is rarely the best. A bike bought unseen from a marketplace listing can arrive crated, uncharged and with no one to call. Buying from a UK specialist means the bike has been through a pre delivery inspection in our workshop: fasteners torqued, chain and sprockets checked, brakes tested, the display set to UK units, and a first charge and test run completed before the courier is booked. When you search for a Talaria dealer in the UK, that inspection is what you are really paying for.

Genuine parts are the second half of the promise. Because we stock batteries, chargers, motors, displays and controllers, a warranty issue or a crash damaged part is a stock check rather than a long wait for a container. Every bike we sell is covered by our UK warranty, full terms on the warranty page, and warranty work is handled by the same people who inspected the bike, so nothing gets lost between a shop and a distant workshop.

Advice is the third. Before you buy, we will tell you honestly whether a Komodo is too much bike, whether a 16 year old needs the L1e rather than an MX3, and which battery upgrade actually helps for the riding you do. After you buy, you can ask us about setup, torque values, regen levels and controller settings and get an answer from someone who knows the model. Read more about us on the about page, or send a question through the contact page.

Finance and UK delivery

Finance is available at checkout for UK customers, so you can spread the cost of a Sting, XXX, Komodo or Dragon rather than paying in one go. The options, term lengths and eligibility criteria are shown at checkout by the finance provider, and eligibility is assessed by the provider when you apply. We do not publish rates or monthly figures on product pages because they depend on the bike, the term and your own circumstances, and the finance page explains how the process works.

Delivery covers the UK mainland, with timescales confirmed at checkout once we know your postcode and which bike you have chosen. Every bike goes through its pre delivery inspection before the courier is booked, and we keep you informed from dispatch until it arrives. Parts and accessories are sent separately from bikes, so a charger or a battery ordered alongside a Sting may arrive on a different day.

The delivery page covers what to expect on the day and what to check when the bike arrives, and the warranty page sets out the full UK warranty terms. If you are buying a road legal model, allow time for registration before you plan your first road ride, and read our guide to riding at 16 with a CBT if the bike is for a younger rider. When you are ready, buy Talaria online here or ask us a question first.

Our verdict on five Talaria models

These are our own assessments as a UK Talaria specialist, written from setting these bikes up and riding them. They are not customer reviews. Verified buyer reviews appear on each product page as customers leave them.

Talaria Sting R MX4

The one we recommend most often. 8000W peak from the IPM motor and a 60V 45Ah LG pack give it real pace without the weight of the 72 volt machines, and the gearbox means no belt to replace.

Best for
A first serious electric dirt bike, trail and MX use
Worth knowing
At 66 kg it is still a full size bike, so a smaller rider should sit on one first
Who it suits
Riders coming off a petrol pit bike or a Sur Ron

Talaria Sting MX5 Pro

The step up that actually feels like a step up. The 72V 40Ah Samsung 50S pack and 13.4 kW peak change the way the bike leaves a corner, and the TFT display is a genuine improvement.

Best for
Riders who already know they want more than the MX4
Worth knowing
It ships speed limited, and the limiter is only for off road use
Who it suits
Experienced off road riders on private land

Talaria Sting Road Legal L1e

The only sensible answer if you are 16 and want to ride on the road. Homologated in the moped class, so it registers with the DVLA and takes a number plate, with the lighting and mirrors fitted at the factory.

Best for
Legal road use at 16 with a CBT
Worth knowing
Limited in line with its class, so it is not a trail bike
Who it suits
New riders, commuters, parents buying for a 16 year old

Talaria Komodo 2025

A different class of machine. 32 kW peak, 754 Nm of torque and a 97.2V 45Ah pack on 21 and 18 inch wheels put it against 350 to 450cc petrol enduro bikes rather than against other e bikes.

Best for
Serious enduro riding and hard terrain
Worth knowing
Off road only, and the power deserves respect
Who it suits
Experienced riders with land or track access

Talaria XXX Pro 2025

The lightweight pick. 160mm of rear travel through the new linkage, a colour TFT and about 53 kg with the battery in, which makes it far easier to pick up and manage in tight woodland.

Best for
Tight trails, lighter riders, anyone who values weight
Worth knowing
Belt primary drive rather than the Sting gearbox
Who it suits
Riders who found a Sting too much bike

Talaria questions, answered

Are Talaria bikes legal in the UK?

Some are. The Sting L1e and Sting L3e are homologated for UK roads and can be registered, insured and ridden with the correct licence and CBT. Every other model, including the Sting R MX4, MX5 Pro, XXX, Komodo and off road Dragon, is an off road vehicle only. Those bikes cannot be used on public roads, byways, bridleways or footpaths and belong on private land with the landowner's permission.

Is it Talaria or Telaria?

The brand is Talaria, spelt with an a in the middle. Telaria, Talria, Taleria and Talara are common misspellings that people type into search engines when looking for a Talaria ebike, and they all refer to the same manufacturer of the Sting, XXX, Komodo and Dragon. If you arrived here through one of those spellings, you are in the right place.

Which Talaria is best for a beginner?

For most new riders it is the Sting MX3 or the XXX. Both run a 60V battery with 6000W or less of peak power, both are light enough to pick up after a fall, and both have four levels of regenerative braking to slow the bike smoothly. If the beginner is 16 and wants to ride on the road, the Sting L1e is the correct choice because it is the only moped class model.

How fast is a Talaria?

It depends on the model and the version. The Sting MX3 is rated at 47 mph, the Sting R MX4 at 53 mph, the Komodo at 105 km/h and the Dragon at approximately 110 km/h, all on the manufacturer's off road figures. The road legal L1e is limited to 45 km/h to meet the moped class. Top speed always depends on rider weight, terrain, tyre choice and battery charge.

How far does a Talaria go on a charge?

Quoted ranges are measured at a steady low speed. The factory states 120 km at 25 km/h for the Sting R MX4, 100 km at 25 km/h for the MX5 Pro, 115 km at 45 km/h for the Komodo and 150 km at 25 km/h for the Dragon. Ridden hard on rough ground, expect a good deal less. Sting batteries swap in seconds, so a spare pack doubles your day.

Can a 16 year old ride a Talaria?

Yes, in two situations. On private land with the landowner's permission, any off road model can be ridden under appropriate supervision. On public roads, a 16 year old can ride the Sting L1e once they hold a provisional licence, have completed CBT, and the bike is registered, plated and insured. The L3e and all off road models are not an option for road use at 16.

Do you sell Talaria parts and batteries?

Yes. Our parts category stocks OEM batteries and chargers for the Sting, replacement IPM and PMSM motors, the Sting R display, rims and complete wheel sets, Manitou Dorado forks, the Track N Go track system, and controller upgrades from KO Moto, Nucular and EBMX. Batteries and chargers have their own category so you can filter by voltage and capacity.

Is Talaria finance available?

Finance is available at checkout for eligible UK customers. Choose your bike, add it to the basket and the finance options appear at the payment step, where the provider sets out the terms and assesses eligibility. We do not publish rates or monthly figures on the site because they depend on the bike, the term and your circumstances. The finance page explains the process.

Is a Talaria better than a Sur Ron?

Neither wins across the board. A Sur Ron is lighter and sits behind the deepest parts market in the class, which suits riders who enjoy modifying as much as riding. A Sting carries more battery, bigger brakes and a sealed gearbox in place of a belt, so there is less to check before you set off. Weight, budget and how much fettling you enjoy decide it. Sit on both if you can.

What does UK law say about riding an electric moped?

An electric moped is an L1e class vehicle limited to 45 km/h. You can ride one from 16 with a provisional licence and Compulsory Basic Training, and the bike must be registered with the DVLA, display a number plate, be insured and be ridden in an approved helmet. A car licence passed before 1 February 2001 already carries moped entitlement. Off road models stay off the public road whatever their speed setting.
