SurRon Parts UK: What a Talaria Specialist Actually Stocks and What Crosses Over

We supply SurRon parts as a Talaria specialist rather than as a Sur Ron dealer, and that distinction is worth making before you read another word. We do not sell complete Sur Ron bikes. The SurRon parts we do hold are the small group of high value components that serve both platforms, chiefly the EBMX 72V 42Ah battery built for the SurRon LBX and the EBMX controller ecosystem that runs on a Light Bee, an Ultra Bee and a Talaria Sting alike. This page sets out exactly what fits what, where the two platforms diverge, and which upgrades are worth the money.

The SurRon parts we stock and the ones we do not

Plenty of shops claim to carry everything. We would rather be useful than broad. Our catalogue of SurRon parts is deliberately narrow and covers the components where the Sur Ron and Talaria platforms genuinely share an ecosystem: high capacity battery packs built to drop into the stock pack location, and EBMX controller hardware with harnesses for both machines.

What we do not stock is the consumable and cosmetic end of the market. We do not hold Sur Ron plastics, seats, subframes, swingarms, stock forks, belts or model specific bearings. If you are hunting a rear hugger for a Light Bee, a Sur Ron specialist will serve you better. Everything in our Talaria parts range is chosen for a reason, and the SurRon parts inside it earn their place by being the items that make a real difference to how a bike performs.

Why a Talaria dealer holds Sur Ron compatible stock at all

Because the aftermarket behind SurRon parts does not respect brand boundaries. EBMX designs its controllers around a family of lightweight electric off road machines and supplies a harness for each. The same X9000 hardware that transforms a Sting will transform a Light Bee, and plenty of riders in this segment own one of each.

The EBMX 72V 42Ah battery for the SurRon LBX

This is the headline item among our SurRon parts and the reason most riders find this page. The EBMX 72V 42Ah battery for the SurRon LBX is a plug and play replacement that drops into the stock battery slot and delivers a large step up in both available power and stored energy over the factory pack.

The fitment detail nobody mentions until it is too late

Both the 60V and 72V EBMX packs occupy the same space as the stock Sur Ron battery, but they are slightly larger than it. On a standard bike that is not an issue. On a bike running an aftermarket seat it can be, and this is the single most common fitment question we answer about SurRon parts. If you have changed the seat, measure before you order or ask us first.

Two things the battery demands of the rest of the bike

  • A controller upgrade. The 72V pack will not run on the stock 60V controller. An EBMX controller is required, which makes the battery and the controller a single purchasing decision rather than two.
  • A 72V charger. The stock 60V charger cannot charge this pack. Budget for the charger at the same time, because a pack you cannot charge is an expensive paperweight.

Riders shopping SurRon parts for more capacity without touching the controller should look at the 60V 65Ah EBMX pack instead. It delivers close to double the range of a stock 60V battery, runs on the stock controller, and fits the OEM battery compartment. It also has headroom for later, supporting up to 15 kW when paired with an X9000 controller.

The EBMX controller ecosystem across both platforms

The EBMX X-9000 Power Kit is the bridge between the two platforms, and it is the piece of kit that makes stocking SurRon parts sensible for a Talaria dealer. It is listed as compatible with the Sur Ron Light Bee, the Sur Ron Ultra Bee and the Talaria Sting, and it is engineered as a direct bolt in replacement rather than a project.

What the X9000 actually is

Of all the SurRon parts on this page it is the hardest to summarise, so here are the numbers. It is a VESC based field oriented controller with firmware modified by EBMX. The published figures are 22 kW rated continuous power, an input voltage range of 40V to 100V, a working range of 48V to 93V, phase current of 1000A continuous and 1500A burst, maximum battery current of 500A, peak efficiency above 95 percent and an IP67 rating. Internally it runs 30 MOSFETs with a 12V DC to DC converter offering four configurable outputs, and it is CANBUS ready.

What comes in the box

The kit ships with the controller, an air cooled heat sink, an SW102 display, a regenerative thumb throttle, a two into one harness, a harness for the Sur Ron Light Bee and a harness for the Talaria MX3 and MX4. Harnesses and brackets for the Ultra Bee and the Talaria XXX are options, as are shrouds for both Sur Ron models. That list is the clearest evidence of how far these SurRon parts cross over.

For Talaria owners weighing the alternatives, our controller upgrade guide compares the X9000 against the KO Moto Factory Spec Rush controller and the Nucular Electronics performance controller. The Nucular kit is a Talaria only item, quoted at up to 30 percent more power on a standard 60V battery and up to 300 percent on a 72V pack, and it does not carry a Sur Ron harness.

Belt drive against the Talaria gearbox

Understanding why some SurRon parts fit a Talaria and others do not starts with the primary drive, because that one engineering choice decides most of what follows. A Sur Ron Light Bee sends power from the motor to the countershaft through a toothed belt. A Talaria Sting sends it through an internal gearbox. Everything downstream differs: the cases, the mounts, the sprocket position, the service routine and the noise the bike makes.

What the belt gives you and what it costs you

A belt is light, quiet and needs no oil. It also stretches, picks up stones and eventually snaps, which is why a spare belt is part of the kit most Sur Ron riders carry. The Talaria gearbox removes that failure mode and replaces it with a periodic oil change, covered in our maintenance guide.

Where Talaria uses a belt too

Not every Talaria has a gearbox. The XXX and X3 models use a belt reduction in the same way a Sur Ron does, with a single pivot rear suspension rather than the Sting linkage. That makes the XXX platform closer in architecture to a Light Bee than the Sting is, which is worth knowing if you are cross shopping. Our Talaria versus Sur Ron comparison goes through the two ranges model by model.

SurRon parts cross compatibility table

The table below summarises the SurRon parts we stock and where each item fits. Treat it as a starting point and confirm fitment against your exact model and year before ordering, particularly if the bike has been modified.

Components that do not cross over

Being clear about the limits is more useful than a long compatibility list. These are the areas where Sur Ron and Talaria hardware is not interchangeable, and where searching for SurRon parts on a Talaria site will lead you nowhere.

  • Motors. The Talaria interior permanent magnet motor is a different unit with a different mounting and a magnetic encoder in place of hall sensors. Nothing crosses.
  • Frames, swingarms, subframes and plastics. Dimensionally different across the board.
  • Suspension. The Manitou Dorado Expert and Dorado Comp forks are listed for the Sting MX3, Sting R MX4 and XXX. The manufacturer does not list a Sur Ron fitment.
  • Wheels, rims and brake discs. Talaria hub spacing, axle sizes and rotor diameters differ, so a Talaria wheel set is a Talaria item only.
  • Chargers and displays. Voltage and connector standards differ between the platforms and between generations of the same platform.

Batteries and controllers are the honest exception, and that is precisely why they make up the SurRon parts side of our catalogue rather than a token gesture at a second brand. A short list of SurRon parts that genuinely work is worth more than a long one that mostly does not.

Ordering, fitment and support in the UK

Buying SurRon parts in the UK rather than importing them improves three things. You are dealing with consumer law that applies here. You are not gambling on a courier clearing a lithium battery through customs. And you can ask a fitment question and get an answer from someone who has had the covers off both platforms, which is the real argument for sourcing Sur Ron parts UK side.

Before you order

Have three details to hand: the exact model and year, the current battery voltage and capacity, and whether the bike carries any aftermarket seat, controller or charger. Those three facts settle almost every compatibility question about SurRon parts in a single exchange. If you are unsure, our contact page is the fastest route to a straight answer.

After it arrives

With SurRon parts, plug and play means the connectors match, not that the job is trivial. A controller swap means routing a harness cleanly, mounting the heat sink where it gets airflow and keeping everything clear of the chain. Photograph the loom before you disconnect anything. Charge a new pack where you can see it for the first few cycles, and recycle end of life packs under the UK batteries and accumulators guidance.

Power upgrades, warranty and the law

Every high power controller among these SurRon parts carries the same warning, and it is not boilerplate. These kits are built for off road riding with on and off throttle use, not sustained wide open throttle. EBMX advises against holding full throttle for more than 10 to 15 seconds, against repeated full throttle runs and against long stints above three quarter throttle. A stock bike in sport mode runs at 5 to 6 kW. The same bike on a high power controller and pack can be pushing 15 kW, and a motor will tell you when it has had enough.

The legal position is just as blunt. Fitting an aftermarket controller and a high power tune makes a machine illegal to ride on the road, because it no longer matches the type approval categories set out in EU Regulation 168/2013 as retained in UK law. The government guidance on riding a motorcycle or moped sets out what a registered machine must comply with. If your bike carries a plate, leave the controller alone and read our page on whether Talarias are legal in the UK first. Power upgrades also affect what a warranty will cover, which is set out on our warranty page.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell complete Sur Ron bikes?

No. We are a UK Talaria specialist and we sell Talaria machines only. The SurRon parts we list exist because the EBMX battery and controller ecosystem genuinely spans both platforms, so customers running a Light Bee or an LBX alongside a Talaria can source those components from us. For a complete Sur Ron bike you need a Sur Ron dealer.

Will the EBMX 72V 42Ah battery fit my SurRon LBX without modification?

It is designed as a plug and play fit in the stock battery slot. The one caveat is physical size: both the 60V and 72V EBMX packs are slightly larger than the factory pack, so an aftermarket seat can interfere. It also requires an EBMX controller and a 72V charger, because it will not run on the stock 60V controller or charge on the stock charger.

Which SurRon parts also fit a Talaria Sting?

The EBMX X9000 power kit is the clearest example, since it ships with harnesses for both the Sur Ron Light Bee and the Talaria MX3 and MX4. The 60V 65Ah EBMX battery fits the OEM compartment on both platforms. Beyond batteries and controllers, almost nothing interchanges, because the frames, motors, suspension and wheels are all different.

What is the real difference between a Sur Ron and a Talaria?

The primary drive is the headline. A Light Bee runs a toothed belt, a Talaria Sting runs an internal gearbox, and that changes noise, servicing and failure modes. The Talaria XXX and X3 use a belt like the Sur Ron does. Beyond that the Talaria motor is a different interior permanent magnet unit with a magnetic encoder rather than hall sensors.

Can I fit a 72V battery to a bike that came with 60V?

Only with a controller that accepts the higher voltage and a charger to match. This applies equally to Sur Ron and Talaria machines. The X9000 has a working voltage range of 48V to 93V so it handles the step up comfortably, but a stock controller will not. Treat the battery, controller and charger as one upgrade rather than three purchases.

Are SurRon upgrades legal on UK roads?

A power upgrade removes road legality. Aftermarket SurRon parts such as controllers and high power tunes are sold for private land use, and fitting one to a registered machine means it no longer matches its type approval. Off road models were never road legal to begin with. Private land with the landowner’s permission is the only place any of this belongs.

Do you supply Sur Ron plastics, seats or belts?

No. Our SurRon parts range covers batteries and controller hardware only, because those are the items where we can give genuine technical support. Bodywork, seats, belts and model specific chassis components are better sourced from a dedicated Sur Ron supplier who stocks them in depth and can match a part to a frame number.
