Talaria parts fall into two groups, and it pays to know which one you are shopping for before anything goes in the basket: factory spares that return a bike to the condition it left the crate in, and upgrade parts that take it somewhere the factory never intended. This page covers both, system by system, with the fitment notes that stop the wrong part turning up at your door.

Identify your bike before you order

Most returns on Talaria parts come from one mistake: ordering a part for the wrong platform. Talaria has built several distinct Sting generations plus the XXX family, and they do not all share components. Every listing in the Talaria parts range names the platform it fits, but the check still starts with the bike in front of you. Ten minutes with the bike before you shop saves a week of waiting, so here are the three checks that matter.

Check the motor type

The original Sting MX3 uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor, PMSM, with hall sensors. The Sting R MX4, the XXX family and the MX5 Pro use an interior permanent magnet motor, IPM, with a magnetic encoder. The two are not interchangeable without controller changes, which is why the Talaria parts range carries a PMSM replacement for the MX3 and an IPM replacement for the MX4 as separate items.

Check the system voltage

MX3, MX4 and every XXX are 60 volt bikes. The MX5 Pro is 72 volt. A 72 volt battery or charger will not work with a 60 volt controller, and a 60 volt charger will not charge a 72 volt pack. Every battery, charger and controller in the Talaria parts listing on this page states its voltage. Match it to the bike you own, not to the bike you plan to build next year.

Check the wheel and disc sizes

Sting MX3 and MX4 run 19 inch wheels front and rear. The XXX and X3 run 17 inch supermoto wheels, and the XXX Pro runs a 19 inch front with a 17 inch rear. MX3 brake discs are 203mm; MX4 and MX5 discs are 220mm. Wheel sets and rims among our Talaria parts are listed by rim size, so measure before ordering rather than assuming.

Batteries and chargers

The battery is the most expensive of all the Talaria parts and the one that most changes how the bike rides. We keep three packs and the factory charger in stock, and the full list lives in the batteries and chargers category. Our Talaria battery guide explains the 60 volt versus 72 volt question in plain language.

Standard capacity replacement

Among the replacement Talaria parts here, the 60V 43.2Ah battery pack for the Sting MX4 is the straightforward fix for a tired or damaged Sting R pack. Capacity sits close to the original 45Ah figure and it drops into the standard battery bay. Read the charger note on the product listing before you buy, because the charging requirement differs from the original 60 volt charger.

Long range: EBMX 60V 65Ah

The 60V 65Ah EBMX battery is the long range choice among our Talaria parts, giving close to double the range of the stock 60 volt pack on the stock controller, and it fits the original battery compartment. Paired with an X9000 controller it will feed a high power build of up to about 15kW. EBMX are clear that those power levels are for on and off throttle riding, and that sustained wide open throttle at that level will overheat the motor, so treat the extra capacity as range first and power second.

72 volt for Surron: EBMX 72V 42Ah

The EBMX 72V 42Ah battery for the Surron Light Bee is one of the Surron parts we carry alongside the Talaria parts catalogue. It fits the stock Surron battery slot, though it is slightly larger than the original pack and can foul some aftermarket seats. It requires an EBMX controller and a 72 volt charger; it will not run on the stock 60 volt controller under any circumstances.

Chargers

The Sting R MX4 OEM charger is the factory 60 volt 12 amp unit. The version listed is the 110 volt input model, so confirm that the input voltage matches your supply before ordering, because UK mains is 230 volts. Chargers are the Talaria parts most often mismatched, because a charger must match both the pack voltage and the connector, and our Talaria charger guide explains charge times and what the indicator lights mean.

Controllers, power kits and displays

The controller decides how much of the battery's current reaches the motor and how the throttle feels under your hand. Three upgrade options among our Talaria parts cover three budgets and three levels of ambition, and the controller upgrades article compares them in depth.

EBMX X-9000 Power Kit

The EBMX X-9000 power kit is the best known controller upgrade in the electric dirt bike world. It is a bolt in replacement for the Surron Light Bee, the Surron Ultra Bee and the Talaria Sting, and it works with both the stock battery and upgraded packs. The X9000 is the controller inside our MX5 Pro Competizione builds, which tells you how much headroom it has.

KO Moto Factory Spec Rush controller

The KO Moto Rush controller upgrade is a factory spec unit for riders who want a sharper Talaria controller without moving to a full VESC based kit. It suits the stock 60 volt system and pairs naturally with the KO Moto factory spec motor described below, which is one of the few Talaria parts wound with a higher KV for exactly this pairing.

Nucular Electronics for MX3 and MX4

The Nucular performance controller is a plug and ride kit for the Sting MX3 and MX4. On the standard 60 volt battery it gives up to 30 percent more power; on a 72 volt battery the gain rises to as much as 300 percent. It is the choice among our Talaria parts for riders who want deep tuning access and are comfortable in a configuration menu.

Talaria screen

The display and speedometer for the Sting R is the factory OLED unit. It shows speed, battery level, voltage and odometer, communicates with the BMS and controller over CAN, and holds the regen level and wheel size settings. A cracked Talaria screen is the most common crash casualty after levers, and it is one of the Talaria parts we supply as a direct replacement rather than a generic unit.

Motors: PMSM, IPM and factory spec

Three motors cover the Sting family. Pick these Talaria parts by platform, not by power figure, because the controller and encoder wiring differ between generations. Motors are the Talaria parts we are asked about most after batteries, so the fitment table further down lists each one against its platform.

Motor swaps on a Sting involve more Talaria parts than the motor itself: the gearbox, the phase wires and the encoder or hall connector. If you have never had the motor out, the fitting notes further down and the gearbox oil guide are the place to start. Drain the gearbox before the motor comes off, not after.

Suspension: Manitou Dorado Expert and Comp

The single upgrade that changes a Sting most is the front fork. The stock unit is adequate; a Manitou Dorado inverted fork with its 37mm chassis is in a different class, which is why Talaria fits the Expert to the Sting R MX4 Expert from the factory. The inverted layout keeps the bushings and seals bathed in oil, and it is around 20 percent stiffer fore and aft than the previous 36mm Dorado. Of all the Talaria parts we stock, the Dorado forks are the ones customers most often describe as transforming the bike.

Dorado Expert: air

The Manitou Dorado Expert fork uses an air spring with a balancing valve that equalises the positive and negative chambers as you fill it, so there are no flat spots in the stroke. Travel adjusts between 180, 190 and 203mm without extra Talaria parts. The ABS+ damper offers low speed compression and rebound adjustment, and TSR bleed screws release pressure that builds in the outer legs. It ships with the top drop crown recommended for electric bikes.

Dorado Comp: coil

The Manitou Dorado Comp fork has the same 37mm chassis and ABS+ damper but a coil spring instead of air. Coil gives a consistent feel without pressure checks, and Manitou recommends the XX firm spring for electric bike weights. Both are Talaria parts that fit the Sting MX3, the Sting R MX4 and the XXX, and both need a headset and stem check before installation.

Wheels, rims and the Track N Go kit

Wheel changes fall into three jobs: replacing a bent rim, changing the wheel size for a different kind of riding, and swapping wheels for tracks when the ground freezes. These are also the Talaria parts most often ordered wrongly, because rim diameter, hub width and disc size all have to agree.

Complete wheel sets

The KKE 21 and 18 inch all black wheel set for the Sting MX3 converts the bike to full size motocross wheel sizes: a 1.6 x 21 front and a 1.85 x 18 rear on CNC 6082 T6 hubs and 7050 T6 rims, complete with bearings, seals and spacers. The complete supermoto 17 inch wheel set for the Sting MX4 and XXX goes the other way, with 70/90 and 90/80 section 17 inch tyres, a 40 tooth sprocket, chain and 220mm rotors. It fits the MX3 too if you swap the rotors for 203mm units.

Individual rims

The 19 x 1.40 front rim assembly is the standard front wheel among Talaria parts for the Sting MX3, MX4 and X3, laced with silver spokes. The 16 x 1.85 rear rim is a CNC black 7116 T7 rim on a 6061 T6 hub with stainless spokes and brass nipples, for riders building a smaller rear wheel for a lower seat or a supermoto stance.

Track N Go

The Track N Go track system for the Sting MX3 and MX4 replaces the rear wheel with a track and the front with a ski, using the original rear suspension. It is designed for low rolling resistance to preserve range and comes with all the Talaria parts needed to swap between wheels and track as the seasons change.

Fitting, torque and care

Talaria parts are not difficult to fit, but the bikes punish carelessness with the high current side. Follow the order below and you will avoid the two failures we see most often: a controller destroyed by connecting the battery with the throttle open, and a wheel that loosens because the axle was torqued by feel.

Working on the electrical system

Switch the bike off, remove the battery and wait a minute before touching the controller, motor phase wires or display connector, which are the Talaria parts that hold charge. Photograph every connector before you separate it. When fitting a controller kit, route the harness away from the swingarm pivot and the chain, and use the supplied grommets where cables pass the frame. Reconnect the battery last, with the kill switch off and the throttle untouched. First power on should be on a stand with the rear wheel clear of the floor.

Wheels, forks and brakes

Axle nuts, pinch bolts, fork clamps and brake caliper bolts all have torque values in the Talaria manual, so fit these Talaria parts with a torque wrench and those figures rather than a number from a forum. Apply a small amount of copper grease to axle threads and a drop of medium strength thread lock to caliper bolts. After a wheel change, spin the wheel and check disc runout against the caliper before the first ride. Bleed brakes with the fluid type specified for your master cylinder; the MX5 Pro uses DOT fluid and mixing types damages seals.

Batteries and chargers

Charge in a dry, ventilated space on a hard floor, never on carpet or in a closed cupboard. Let a battery warm to room temperature after a cold ride before charging. Do not store a pack fully charged for months; part charged in a cool room is kinder to the cells. The GOV.UK batteries and accumulators guidance covers disposal and producer responsibilities when a pack reaches the end of its life.

Keeping a road legal bike legal

An L1e or L3e Sting is type approved as it left the factory, in the classes defined by Regulation 168/2013. Fitting a controller kit, a 72 volt pack or a motor with a different winding to a registered bike takes it outside that approval and outside the terms of its insurance. Keep power upgrades for off road bikes ridden on private land, and keep the road bikes standard. Competition riders should check the technical rules at the Auto Cycle Union before building for an event.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell Talaria Sting R parts on their own?

Yes. Talaria Sting R parts in stock include the IPM replacement motor, the OEM charger, the 60V 43.2Ah battery pack, the OLED display, the 19 inch front rim and the supermoto wheel set, along with upgrade parts such as the Manitou Dorado forks and the EBMX, KO Moto and Nucular controllers. If the Talaria parts you need are not listed, contact us with your frame number.

Will Surron parts fit a Talaria?

Some do and most do not. Controllers such as the EBMX X9000 are made with harnesses for both brands, so one kit covers a Light Bee, an Ultra Bee or a Sting. Batteries, motors, wheels and suspension are brand specific, so those Talaria parts do not cross over: the Surron uses a belt primary drive and a different battery bay, so a Surron battery will not fit a Sting and a Sting motor will not fit a Light Bee.

Which Talaria controller upgrade should I choose?

For the biggest power ceiling and the widest compatibility, the EBMX X9000. For a factory spec feel on the stock 60 volt system, the KO Moto Rush. For a tuner's controller with deep settings on an MX3 or MX4, the Nucular kit. All three remove the bike from any road approval and put more heat into the motor, so pair them with sensible throttle use and, ideally, a motor built for the power.

Can I run the EBMX 72V battery in my Sting?

The 72V 42Ah pack we list is built for the Surron Light Bee battery bay. A 72 volt conversion on a Sting needs a pack sized for the Talaria bay, an EBMX controller that accepts 72 volts, and a 72 volt charger. Ask us before ordering and we will confirm which combination fits your frame; it is not a case of dropping in a bigger battery.

How do I know if my Talaria screen is faulty or the wiring is?

A display that stays dark with a charged battery usually points to the connector or the main fuse, not the screen. Check the plug behind the headlight for corrosion and reseat it. A display that powers on but shows error codes or a blank speed field after a crash is more likely to be a damaged unit, and the Sting R display is a plug in replacement that keeps your settings menu.

Is a Talaria charger interchangeable between MX3 and MX4?

Both are 60 volt bikes, but connectors and charge current on these Talaria parts have changed between revisions, so check the plug on your battery against the charger listing before buying. The OEM charger we stock is the Sting R MX4 unit with a 110 volt input. UK owners need a charger with a 230 volt input, so confirm the input voltage with us before ordering.
